November 2012- Cornelius Pietzner was invited to serve as an expert jury of the first WWF Switzerland/Ennovent Tropical Forest Challenge 2012. The objective of this  initiative was to discover the best for-profit solutions from around the world that have a positive impact on tropical forest biodiversity. The Challenge used the Ennovent network to crowdsource relevant solutions through social media and partners. Ennovent, a company that accelerates sustainable innovations for low-income markets, managed the Tropical Forest Challenge on behalf of WWF Switzerland. *June 17-19th, 2012- Mindhouse Summit- Tällberg, Sweden- Nurturing higher mindfulness in leadership and enterprise: The challenges of a runaway world – the ecology under threat, the economy tilted for the benefit of a few, society at breaking point, cultures clashing – cannot be resolved by technology, policies, laws or regulation alone. At heart, a shift in human consciousness and evolution is a necessary condition. The 1st Mindhouse Summit addresses this shift head on. Alterra will participate in this invitational gathering to prepare the Summit for 2013.

Thierry Malleret joins Advisory Board

Alterra is pleased to announce the addition of Thierry Malleret of Geneva, Switzerland to its Advisory Board. Mr. Malleret, founder of the Monthly Barometer, a predictive analysis exclusively prov

ided to private investors and some of today’s most influential opinion and decision-makers, brings extensive experience to Alterra in this capacity, having served as Senior Partner for IJ Partners, an investment boutique for ultra-high-net-worth individuals based in Geneva. Thierry served as managing Partner at Rainbow Insight, providing tailor-made intelligence to investors, and formerly headed the Global Risk Network at the World Economic Forum. He served as a Chief Economist and Strategist of a major Russian investment bank, as an economist at EBRD in London, and in think tanks, academia and government.

He was educated at the Sorbonne and Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris and at St. Antony’s College, Oxford. He holds two MAs (in Economics and History) and a PhD in Economics.

Cooperation Agreement with Cultura Bank-Oslo, Norway

Alterra is pleased to enter into a Cooperation Agreement with Cultura Bank (www.cultura.no), the leading ethical bank in Norway. After having won the Nordic Council’s Environment and

Nature Award in 2010, Cultura Bank was a 2011 runner-up for ”Social Entrepreneur of the Year”, an award presented by Ferd Social Entrepreneurs. The bank operates along the following key principles: Sustainability, Transparancy and Consciousness. (Annual Report 2011)

The Cooperation Agreement reflects the intention to refer companies seeking equity capital in the sectors where Alterra is active, as well as potential private clients seeking impact investing opportunities. Further, Alterra is seen as a referral partner for Cultura, both in regard to potential companies and private clients. We are pleased to commence this new step with Cultural Bank, and further strengthen Alterra’s partnerships in Scandinavia.

Cooperation Agreement signed with Merkur Bank, Denmark

Alterra Impact Finance is pleased to announce that it has signed a Cooperation Agreement with Denmark’s leading ethical bank, Merkur, on February 27, 2012. This agreement reflects the intention to refer companies seeking equity cap

ital in the sectors where Alterra is active, as well as potential private clients seeking impact investing opportunities. Further, Alterra is seen as a referral partner for Merkur bank, both in regard to potential companies and private clients. This agreement strengthens the visibility of Alterra in Scandinavian markets. We are very pleased to be working with Merkur in this respect.

Cooperation Agreement with Ekobanken, Sweden

In January, Alterra signed a Cooperation Agreement with Sweden’s leading ethical bank, Ekobanken (www.ekobanken.se), founded in 1998. In 2010 Ekobanken received The Nordic Council’s Natur

e and Environment Award, together with the Merkur (Denmark) and Cultura banks (Norway) for its focus on sustainable projects and green values. The Agreement with Alterra indicates the intention to serve as a referral partner for clients and businesses.

Fund Launch on November 14

Alterra hosted its Fund Launch at its office on Bleicherweg, Zurich on November 14, 2011. The lunchtime event with 40 guests from social finance, banking, impact investing and philanthropy were introduced to the investment focus, scope and aims of Alterra Impact Finance by Cornelius Pietzner and the Alterra Team. The Guest Keynote Address by Jacob von Uexkull, Founder of the Right Livelihood Award ( known as the “Alternative Nobel Prize”) and the World Future Council, as well a project presentation featuring Vita Terra (Switzerland) and Beni Ghreb, active in bio-dynamic agriculture in southwest Tunisia were informative and well-received.
