Medicines and Therapy

• The European Federation for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (EFCAM) estimates that over 100 million EU citizen currently use complementary and alternative medicine approaches in their ongoing health care provision.
• EICCAM indicates that, based on surveys, 20%  of EU citizens have a „clear preference for CAM healthcare, and another 20% are regular users of CAM“. The most commonly used CAM therapies in Europe are: homeopathy, phytotherapy (herbal medicine), anthroposophic medicine, naturopathy, traditional Chinese medicine (including acupuncture), osteopathy and chiropractic. • Already in 2004 the World Health Organization estimated sales of herbal remedies in western europe alone to be over 5 billion USD.
• Integrative medicines (homeopathy and anthroposophic medicines), excluding herbal remedies, represent a turnover of approximately 2 billion USD in Europe.
